17 września 1939 roku, obchodzony jest Światowy Dzień Sybiraka. Upamiętniamy w tym dniu wszystkich Polaków zesłanych na Syberię i inne tereny Rosji i Związku Sowieckiego. Rodziny wywożone w wagonach bydlęcych, bez możliwości zabrania osobistych rzeczy, wyciągane nocą z łóżek, jechały kilka tygodni, by zakończyć podróż w syberyjskiej tajdze. Chcąc uczcić ich pamięć, 16 września br. na Cmentarzu Komunalnym w Barlinku, członkowie Związku Sybiraków w Barlinku z prezesem Związku Sybiraków w Barlinku Marią Symonowicz, Burmistrz Barlinka Dariusz Zieliński, Przewodniczący Komisji Oświaty, Kultury, Zdrowia i Praworządności Rady Miejskiej w Barlinku Cezary Michalak oraz Sekretarz Barlinka Ewa Hinc – Dziedziela, pod pomnikiem Sybiraków, złożyli wiązanki kwiatów i zapalili znicze.
